Mastering Compliance Strategies and Best Practices for Privacy Regulations

The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) emerged as the inaugural data privacy law at the state level in the United States. Three years after its implementation, this pioneering regulation is now joined by a growing number of state-level privacy regulations and federal oversight measures concerning data privacy. Despite its relatively short existence, the CCPA has undergone significant advancements, particularly with the introduction of the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA). The CCRA incorporates two new rights into its framework as well as changes to key definitions that enhance consumer privacy and enforcement mechanisms. For attorneys advising clients who fall under the purview of the CCPA, this course provides an essential tool for understanding the key amendments to the CCPA, changes in enforcement authority, and what to anticipate going forward. More broadly, as an increasing number of states continue to pass their own data privacy legislations, this course can serve both to provide specialized knowledge as well as a broader understanding of how clients should expect to adapt to this developing regulatory environment.
In this seminar, our panel of experts provides a comprehensive overview of the CCPA. They delve into the rights granted to consumers under the CCPA, both prior to the CPRA and those introduced by the CPRA's significant amendments in 2022. These amendments include expanding businesses covered by the CCPA and a broader definition of personal data. The speakers also shed light on the role of the newly established California Privacy Protection Agency (CPPA) and discussed additional amendments brought forth by the CPRA. The seminar concludes with insights into the anticipated developments in CCPA regulations in 2023 and provides recommendations for navigating this evolving landscape.
