Manuel (Manny) immigrated to Brooklyn, NY, as a boy from his native island of Vieques, Puerto Rico. He encountered fierce prejudice upon arrival, especially since he did not speak or understand much English. This experience led to many fights and, eventually, to Manny’s intolerance for injustice and bullying. He quickly resolved that he was not going to become a victim at the hands of others and was determined to assist those who could not stand up for themselves. Manny excelled in school, mastering the language and becoming a star athlete, winning multiple awards at Xavier High School. He earned scholarships to college and law school, where he worked tirelessly to learn his craft. Manny first gained training in personal injury law while attending law school. Ironically, he spent those early years working for defense firms—on the other side! This proved to be an invaluable learning experience. Manny conducted research for senior partners; he wrote briefs and motions and learned trial tactics. He studied evidence diligently and became fascinated by the judicial process. Manny was most captivated by the art of trial advocacy, recognizing early in his career the power of the courtroom. He became increasingly frustrated by insurance companies that refused to settle or offered only a fraction of a claim’s worth for serious injuries. This is why he switched sides to represent plaintiffs. Manny opened his own practice in 1990 and has since secured millions in settlements and jury awards for hundreds of clients. Over the years, he has attended and taught many workshops to further develop and sharpen his extensive trial skills. He has also built strong relationships with both sides of the bar and held numerous positions in various bar associations, judicial selection commissions, committees, and boards of directors. Since day one, Manny’s goal has been to advance justice for a diverse society and take a leadership role on behalf of injured individuals. With his extensive accolades, awards, education, and skills, Manny continues to advance his goal of achieving justice for all.
