Explore the history and relevant cases surrounding the Digital Millennium Copyright Act

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) is an amendment to the copyright law of the United States, which was enacted in response to the apparent lack of laws that addressed the nature of technology and how it affected the older copyright laws. Relevant U.S.C. Sections were 17 U.S.C. §§ 512, 1201–1205, 1301–1332; 28 U.S.C. § 4001 (created) and U.S.C. sections amended 17 U.S.C. §§ 101, 104, 104A, 108, 132, 114, 117, 701. Its goal is to prevent any technology which is designed primarily to circumvent access to a work protected under the Copyright Act. Mr. Jackman provides the background behind the enactment of DMCA, numerous resources on in-depth changes and amendments and an assessment of its effectiveness with the continued developments of new technology and challenges. He also discusses a variety of case examples which have arisen since its enactment.
