Municipal Liability and Risk Management Attorney
Joseph Race is an attorney admitted to practice in Connecticut and New York where he specializes in Municipal Liability and Risk Management issues, specifically focusing on policy development and accreditation/compliance matters. Mr. Race retired as a Captain of the Madison (CT) Police Department where he commanded the Administrative Division; including internal affairs as well as recruitment, selection and hiring. During his time in Madison, Mr. Race successfully led the Madison Police Department to dual CALEA Accreditation for Law Enforcement and Public Safety Communication as well as State of Connecticut Tier III Accreditation. Mr. Race is actively involved in accreditation and currently serves as a CALEA Assessment Team Leader. As such, Mr. Race ensures that assessed agencies adhere to the best practices in law enforcement based on CALEA standards. These standards range from legal requirements, constitutional protections, administrative processes and operational responsibilities. Mr. Race is an Associate Faculty member at Post University where he instructs Law, Ethics and Administrative Agencies for the Master of Public Administration program, Criminal Justice concentration. Mr. Race is a Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council instructor in areas including Police Ethics & Moral Issues; Constitutional Law; Civil Liability; Search and Seizure; Use of Force; Juvenile Law; Law Enforcement & Citizens with Special Needs; Domestic Violence Investigations; Sexual Assault Investigations; Hate & Bias Crimes; Policy Development; Selection & Hiring; and Report Writing. Mr. Race is a graduate of the Quinnipiac University School Law and is a practicing member of the Connecticut and New York state bars as well as the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut. Mr. Race is a graduate of the Southern Police Institutes 76th Command Officers Development Course and the 270th Session of the FBI National Academy. Mr. Race is also proud United States Marine Corps veteran.
